Bufo viridis (Amphibia, Anura, Bufonidae)

ΕΛ: Πράσινος φρύνος. Είδος προστατευόμενο από την οδηγία 92/43/ΕΟΚ, από τη σύμβαση της Βέρνης (1979) και από το Προεδρικό Διάταγμα 67/1981. Περιλαμβάνεται σε πολλά κόκκινα βιβλία με απειλούμενα είδη σε πολλές χώρες.

Τρέφεται με μεγάλη ποικιλία εντόμων και άλλων ασπονδύλων, κυρίως ακρίδες, πεταλούδες, γαιοσκώληκες, σκαθάρια και κάμπιες. Η πλάτη και τα άκρα του διαθέτουν ευδιάκριτα ερυθρά φύματα με δηλητηριώδεις αδένες.

EN: European green toad. The species is protected by the Bern Convention (1979) and the EU Natural Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC). It is protected by Hellenic national legislation (Presidential Degree 67/1981). It is recorded on many national and sub-national Red Data books and lists and is present in many protected areas.

The toads eat a variety of insects and invertebrates, mainly crickets, meal worms, small butterflies, earthworms, moths, beetles and caterpillars.The back and the feet have distinct red cusps with poisonous glands.
